10 things you can do to promote healthy hair and good growth.

• Get your hair cut every 4-6 weeks or 8 weeks at a push. Doing this will help to cut off any split ends whilst making your mane look sharp and healthy.

• Use the correct products. This might sound like a simple thing to do but do many people use the wrong products. Remember shampoo is for the scalp, conditioner for the hair and styling and finishing products to do exactly that.... style and finish. E.g. if you're someone who has coloured hair but lacks volume use a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair and volumising styling products to blowdry then finish off with a shine spray or dry texture spray.

• Massage your scalp regularly as this helps to circulate the blood supply to your scalp which also helps to feed your hair with oxygen and nutrients thus encouraging healthy hair growth.

• Go for a check up with your GP as there may be some underlying issues you may not be aware of. There are lots of things that can affect hair growth including iron deficiency or problems with the thyroid to name a few.

• Make sure you're having enough vitamins through a balanced diet or taking vitamins. Sometimes we may not be feeding our bodies the right amount of vitamins and minerals we need to keep a healthy head of hair. We get some from eating a balanced diet but perhaps not get enough. Vitamins help 'top up' those vital nutrients we might be missing.

• Eat a balanced diet and this goes without saying. If you don't eat the right foods you then you're most probably not going to have the hair of your dreams.

• Use serums and oils as these will help keep split ends at bay and also protect your hair. Use serums/oils that will add goodness and promote healthy hair. Some can even be used as treatments. I like using the Matrix Exquisite oil as you can use this as a treatment and a blowdrying or finishing product, leaving the hair shiny, soft and supple.

• Leave your hair loose if you can. Tying your hair up so much can eventually cause the hair to break and cause split ends. If you do need to tie your hair up, where you can try and tie it loosely in a low pony and use a scrunchie so as not to cause too much tension.

• Sleep on silk pillows because this causes less friction in your hair when your tossing and turning and your head is rubbing against the pillow. You could also create a loose plait if you have super long hair.
